Meet the Senior Staff...

Stuart Silverman - Director

Stuart not only serves as Director of Jacob and Rose Grossman Camp, but he is also the Director of Camping Services, overseeing all the JCCGB camps. He started at Grossman in 1977 serving first as counselor, Unit Head, Assistant Director for 11 years and as Director for 18 years. In his 30 years at Grossman Camp, he has been responsible for many wonderful changes and enhancements. Although he works for camp all year round, Stuart is also a 33-year veteran of the Lexington High School Guidance Department.

David Wolf - Assistant Director

This is David’s 24th season as Assistant Director here at camp. He oversees the Upper Camp and is well known as “Mr. Macabbiah”.(He runs the color war.) David has been involved in camping for over 40 years. In the off-season, David works at the Solomon Schechter Day School in Newton where he teaches 5th grade and heads the Intermediate Division.

Sue Green - Assistant Director

Sue has been at Grossman for 20 seasons. Her expanded role as Assistant Director has her working for camp all four seasons. During the summer, she supervises the Lower Camp,the Kehillah Unit as well as Jewish Programming.During the cooler months, Sue works out of the Newton JCC office and at Sameem Associates, Inc. in Newton and Sharon. She has been involved with camping for close to 35 summers and involved in Jewish Education for over 25 years.

 

Josh Shapiro - Waterfront Director

Josh has been a fixture at Grossman for many years! He has done a superior job of directing our waterfront for 38 summers. When he’s not swimming, Josh teaches the seventh grade at the Dexter School in Brookline.

 

Diane Saltzberg - Special Needs Director

Diane has been involved in camping for over 24 years. We have been fortunate here at Grossman to have her as the Special Needs Director for 15 summers. Diane has recently retired from the Weston Public Schools after 40 years as an Adjustment Counselor. She is presently the Special Needs Director at the Striar Hebrew Academy in Sharon for the 'off season'.

 

Barry Mindes - CIT Director

Barry has run an educational and experiential CIT program for Grossman for the past 15 seasons. He is currently a Site Director for Champions, a before/after school program in Plainville, after 32 years of teaching in the Town of Norton. Barry also teaches Religious School at Temple Beth Abraham in Canton and has been a USY Advisor for many years.

Lee Saltzberg - 9th week and Kinnerit Unit Head

Lee directs the 9th week program, as well as heading the Kinnerit Unit during the regular season. Husband of Diane, he is a school psychologist for the Dedham Public Schools. He has been involved in camping for 32 seasons.

Shari Gaudet - Office Manager

Shari has been with Grossman Camp as summer Office Manager for 14 summers, overseeing an extremely busy, ever changing, work environment with calm and ease. During the 'off season' she is the office manager at a behavioral health practice that allows her the time to spend the summers at Grossman.

 

Fred Friedberg - Transportation Director

After 38 years of teaching Fred retired to Arizona with his wife Alice! He has been Director of Transportation for the last 23 years, working behind the scenes to ensure the safety of all campers and counselors during their trips to and from camp. He has overseen many changes and enhancements along the way. Fred plans to summer at Grossman for many years to come!

Barbara Levy - Specialist Supervisor

Barbara is the newest member of the Grossman Camp senior staff.For her first three summers at camp Barbara served as Aravah Unit Head. Currently, Barbara supervises the camp Specialists (archery, drama, sports, etc.) and Aravah .Prior to having children, Barbara enjoyed a 20-year career in healthcare administration.

Renee Werber - Golan Unit Head

Renee has been the Golan Unit Head at Grossman for the past 17 summers. She is currently a fifth grade teacher at the South Area Solomon Schechter in Stoughton when she is not at camp.

300 years of experience at Grossman Camp!

These Senior Staffers at Grossman Camp represent approximately 300 years of experience in camping . Jackets were awarded to these exceptional people in the Summer of 2007, with years of service ranging from 7 to 38--and still going!
